Position Summary

As a language and intercultural coach and trainer, you will:

  • Work in private lesson or small-to-medium sized group corporate and community learning environments.
  • Engage and motivate your students to learn, grow and challenge their skills through practical, timely and relevant content and experiences.
  • Create a learning environment that will be enjoyed by you and your students.
  • Teach language classes and facilitate culture training using proprietary training materials and concepts of Visions International enriched with your own creative-approaches and resource portfolio.
  • Perform administrative functions in preparation and administration of class sessions, student performance and class reporting.
  • Occasionally team train in a larger group environment.
  • Have contact with potential and current students and corporate clients all various ages, levels of education, language proficiency levels, professional job roles and corporate seniority levels.
    Facilitate online and in-person courses, trainings and training videos.
  • Handle confidential, proprietary, and sensitive material and information of Visions International and our clients and students.

Greenville-Spartanburg, South Carolina, USA. This position is in-person. Candidates should currently live in or near the Greenville-Spartanburg, SC area or plan to commute or relocate to Upstate SC, Greenville or Spartanburg, SC upon joining our team.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Customer Service: Position requires confident and complete knowledge of the mission, functions, organizational structure, policies and procedures of your department, division and the company and client requirements. You are the first line of contact to students, clients, and you are a resource to the T.E.A.M. and partners.
  • Student and Affiliate Communication: Communicating and coordinating minor logistics with students, clients and affiliates. Providing responses by phone, email, messaging applications and voicemail communication in a timely manner.
  • Research and Resources: Research current and relevant issues, events, data and information related to students’ life, culture, profession/job/industry/company, and teaching the language and culture. Research typically requires obtaining data from multiple sources. Select and utilize age-appropriate and proficiency level-appropriate textbooks and resources that also align with the objectives of the course and CEF Levels.
  • Personal Management and Time Management: Will manage own students, class schedules, maintain course calendar, schedule appointments and meetings, and coordinate with students/parents or management. Management of students, classes and schedules are in online software systems.
  • Student Life Support: Must be attentive to recognize intercultural and life challenges expatriate students may encounter to offer basic support within the boundaries of professional ethics, inform Client Relations, demonstrate sensitivity, and cultural awareness. Examples may include understanding cultural differences in building or maintaining friendships or work relationships, recognizing bullying in school, stress, anxiety, depression, or potential learning disabilities.
  • Data Entry: Will perform data entry regarding class/student information, attendance, cancellations, changes, student’s performance (participation, grades, tests, quizzes) in an online software system, database or spreadsheet.
  • Technology: Visions International is a highly, virtual and technology-driven and integrated environment. Position requires current and ongoing self-development of knowledge of desktop and web-based applications such as Microsoft Office (OneDrive, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Google Workspace, Slack, Hubspot Customer Relationship Management (CRM), cloud computing (online storage), calendar management, task management, email, online meeting programs, communication applications, learning management system (LMS), and human resource management portal.
  • Privacy and Security: Proficient with discerning and managing information and issues related to client and company privacy, security of data, technology and antivirus protection.


  • Professional, native-level proficiency in the target language. If The target language is not your native language, you will be required to submit formal, credible proficiency certification documentation or take a formal, credible proficiency test at your own expense. Certification or validation of continuing education or recent experience must be valid within the last year.
  • Three (3) or more years of experience teaching the target language and culture
  • Abroad experience: education, work or living abroad not personal vacation travel
  • Classroom Facilitation Skills: Will facilitate small to mid-sized classes (1-15 students), which are typically 1-2 hours per class to multi-session, multi-day, intensive in length. Obtain feedback from students, participants and your language coaching T.E.A.M. and make recommended changes for following sessions.
  • Online Teaching and Training Skills: Ability to engage, monitor, adapt and challenge various learning styles and attention spans of students in an online environment. Must be able to use commands, annotation tools, and full capabilities of online learning or meeting programs to promote interaction, learning, student demonstration of concepts or skills, and expedient communication. Ability to manage and troubleshoot technology to minimize distraction or detraction from class time.
  • Adult Education Skills: Experience and/or expertise teaching adults, business professionals and executives.
  • Creating an environment that is creative, challenging, reflective, interactive, engaging, participatory, respectful and fun. Must be able to attain a knowledge base of student’s life/profession/job/industry/company to customize and relate language coaching to the student’s use of the language and culture, and the student’s goals.
  • Youth Education Skills: Experience and/or expertise teaching elementary and secondary education students and creating an environment that is creative, challenging, interactive, engaging, participatory, respectful and fun.
  • Must be able to coach, develop and enrich the student’s academic language skills for various subjects/content areas related to the student’s academic learning, areas of development and goals.
  • Proficiency and Performance Assessment Skills: Must be able to accurately evaluate proficiency levels according to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEF Levels A1-C2), perform assessments, and set goals and learning plans with students to progress in CEF Levels and pass proficiency examinations. Must be able to give timely, respectful, constructive feedback regularly and after monthly or quarterly evaluations of the student’s performance.
  • Intercultural Training Skills: Experience and/or expertise facilitating intensive full-day or multi-day culture trainings for employees relocating inbound or outbound to live and work in the Upstate, South Carolina, USA or other countries or cultures. Ability to listen, customize and impart valuable in-depth knowledge, information, and cultural skill development strategies relevant to the participant’s new life, new work environment, and new local culture.
  • Presentations Skills: May be responsible for presenting intercultural information (historical, current, comparisons) to a group or individual students in-person or online.

Desired Qualifications

  • Credible teaching certification in the target language; if not, you may be required to obtain certification within 6 months – 1 year of employment at your own expense. You may be eligible for a certification scholarship or reimbursement.
  • Bilingual or multi-lingual with the target and able to teach 2 or more languages or cultures (e.g. English, Spanish, German, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Cantonese, Portuguese, Thai).
  • Target Proficiency Examinations experience teaching and preparing students to take exams such as TOEIC, TOEFL, IELTS, and EIKEN.
  • Five (5) or more years of training experience in the target language and culture in-person in private and small-to-medium sized group environment
  • Minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in business fields such as customer relations, business administration, sales, marketing, business development, manufacturing or engineering.
  • Corporate training experience
  • Small business environment experience
  • Youth academic subject matter tutoring skills a plus in content areas of math, science, reading, social studies, etc.
  • Translation and interpretation skills are a plus in combinations of English-German, English-Spanish, and English-Chinese.
